Mojtaba Habibi Asgarabad obtained his doctorate degree in health psychology in 2011. He received his M.A. in Measurement and Assessment in psychology (psychometric studies) from University of Tehran in 2007 and his B.A. in psychology from University of Tehran in 2005.  During his PhD studies in 2010, he was selected as an excellent PhD student in the field of Social Sciences by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
He was a recipient of Research Grand Scholarship, awarded by the Iranian Psychological Association as a distinguished PhD student in health psychology in September 2011. He was also granted a scholarship by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2010 as the guest researcher under the supervision of Laura Ferrer-Wreder, an associate professor at Stockholm University, Sweden which led to a nine-month research visit to Stockholm University, the Department of Psychology. The sabbatical research helped him gain more scientific experience under Dr. Laura Ferrer-Wreder in research methods especially in addiction prevention intervention for adolescents.
 
He is also working on Well-Being Interventions/Preventions among Adolescent Asylum Seekers in the European ::::::::::union:::::::::: using Person-centered Well-being Coaching in a joint project with Dr Danilo Garcia, Blekinge Centre of Competence, Karlskrona, Sweden. This is to see if they could improve with focusing on increasing resilience through character and identity development.
 
In 2011 Dr.Habibi started his academic career as an Assistant Professor, in The Family Research Institute, Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran and continued working in the same position till 2016. Since 2016 he has been working as an Assistant Professor, in the Department of Health Psychology, School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health (Tehran Psychiatric Institute), Iran University of Medical Sciences.
He received a full scholarship to attend the 20th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2014), held in Melbourne, Australia, from 20 to 25 July 2014, winning the Prize awarded by the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis.  He was a recipient of full scholarship for HIV and Drug Use Research Program Fellowship (Postdoc) Awarded by a HIV and Drug Use Research Program Fellowship sponsored by the International AIDS Society, the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse and the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis April 2014. He is also a member of Registered Psychologists, and member of board at Psychometrics Committee in Iranian Psychological Registration Board,  and Iranian Health Psychology Association’s member of board and Director of Research Committee, from 2012-Present.
 
Dr. Habibi has been trained as a clinical health psychologist with quantitative and qualitative orientations mostly in statistics and psychological methodology. He has administered some research on adolescent psychopathology in the field of behavioral problems, risky behavior, parent-child interaction and its effect on developing unhealthy behavior in child and adolescent.
 
His research interests are:
  • Positive Youth Development, and well-being
  • Resilience During Transition to Adulthood
  • Research design, implementation, and evaluation of family-school based interventions
    • Promotion of healthy behavior programs
    • Prevention of risky behaviors (substance use, alcohol use, and sexual risk-taking behavior).
Apart from positive youth development, his research interests also include chronic pain, psychosomatic disorders, child pain and pediatric disorders related issues such as development of healthy social network, and coping strategies as well as qualitative & quantitative methods in chronic pain studies with especial attention to the contextual components.
He is a Turkish native speaker, also fluent in Persian and English.
